Gerade ein paar Schritte vom Nationalgarten (gleich links) und von der Akropolis (Fotoaufnahme von dort aus) befindet sich der zweitgrösste griechische Tempel der Antike (der grösste war der Hera-Tempel auf Samos). Von seinen damaligen 100 Säulen sind nur noch 16 übrig

An seiner Abgrenzung nach links sind noch einige Reste der antiken Stadtmauer zu sehen.

Just a stones´throw from the National Garden (to the left) and from the Acropolis (photo shot from there) you can visit the second largest greek Temple of the ancient world (the first one being the Heraion Temple of Samos). From its earlier over 100 columns are just only 16 still present.

At its boundaries to the left are still visible some rests of the ancient city walls of Athens.

Von dieser Perspektive aus blickt man in Richtung Akropolis hinauf. Die umgefallene Säule ist das Ergebnis von einem Blitzschlag bei einem Sturmwetter im vorigen Jahrhundert

From this angle you look to the Acropolis rock. The fallen column is not the result of an earthquake but of a lightning strike in the last century.

Auch an den Abgrenzungen zum Zeus-Tempel sieht man die Reste von einem der antiken Stadt-Tore aus der Römer-Zeit, das die "Stadt des Thesseus" von der "Stadt des Hadrian" trennte.

Gerade unter dem Bogen kann man den Akropolis-Felsen sowie das Anafiotika-Viertel erkennen.

Also at the boundaries of the Olympeion Temple is the rest of a gate from the roman times, separating the "ancient city of Theseus" from the "new city of Hadrian".

Just under the arch you can see the rocks of Akropolis and at their boundaries the Anafiotika quarter of the Plaka.

Von der Akropolis aus, hat man einen schönen Blick zu den malerischen Häuschen von Anafiotika.

Im Hintergrund kann man erkennen den Hadrians Bogen, den Zeus Tempel und am Horizont den Berg Hymettos, berühmt für seinen wohlriechenden Honig! Die Säulen im Vordergrund sind das Thrasylos-Monüment.

From the Akropolis on you have a nice view to the picturesque houses of Anafiotika.

In the background you can see the Arch of Hadrian and behind it the Zeus Temple. In the far the Hymettos Mountain famous for its honey! In the foreground you can see the two columns of the so-called Thrasylos monument.

Eigentlich der Sockel von einem Tripod (Dreifuss), der als Preis bei den antiken Tragödie- und Komödie-Wettbewerben galt.

Eine der antiken Strassen war gesäumt von solchen Preisen und wurde deshalb "Tripodon Strasse" genannt. Ihr Verlauf entspricht in etwa der heutigen gleichnamigen Strasse in der Plaka.

Actually an award (a tripode) from a won theater competition placed on a high base. It was usual at that time to place such awards on the streets visible to everyone.

One of the ancient city streets was named by it: the tripodes street. There is also a modern city street with the same name, and it follows the same direction as the ancient one!

Das ganze Plaka-Viertel ist durch seine steilen und engen Gassen gekennzeichnet. Und am meisten ist dies der Fall beim Teil Anafiotika, dessen Name von den Erbauern der ersten Häuser hier stammt, die Hanwerker aus der Insel Anafi waren.

Wegen seine besonderen Charakters steht heute das ganze Viertel unter Denkmalschutz.

The whole old city part of Plaka is characterised by its steep ways and steps. The steepest places are at the quarter Anafiotika, named from its first houses, built at the second half of the last century by some building workers from the island Anafi.

Because of its very special character is the whole quarter under the protection law for historical buildings.

Griechenland-Reisende werden sofort die Ähnlichkeit der Häuser auf den Inseln und hier erkennen. Einfaches Weiss das von bunten Tupfern durchbrochen wird, herrscht hier überall.

Und von hier oben hat man natürlich eine wunderbaren Ausblick über die Dächer von Athen.

People having visited some of the greek islands will find in Anafiotika very many similarities, the white houses, the coloured doors and windows etc. Lastly this quarter has been built by people from the island Anafi !

And from here on you have a very nice view over the roofs of the city.

Das ganze Viertel wurde eigentlich illegal von den genannten Hanwerkern erbaut, die sich ein Gesetz zunutze machten, wonach ein Haus, das über Nacht errichtet wird und ein Dach besitzt, nicht abgerissen werden darf!

Bei vielen dieser Häuser wohnen heute Maler und Künstler.

The whole quarter of Anafiotika has its origins at some building workers from the island Anafi, which illegally constructed their houses in this area.

The most of the houses are under protection law and very often used by painters and other artists today.

An dieser Stelle muss man sich seitlich drehen um durchzukommen, besonders wenn man eine Foto-Tasche an seiner Seite hängen hat!

At this place you must take down your camera holdall from your side and turn your body to the side! Indeed an amazing place!

Der Wechsel von Anafiotika zur Plaka erfolgt unmerklich und auf einmal steht man a den bekannten Steilen von Plaka mit ihren Tavernen und ihren Balkonen.

Hier befinden wir uns in der Mnisikleous Strasse mit einer Menge von Tavernen (nicht gerade empfehlenswert), aber die Besitzer sind echt lästig beim Einladen!

The change from Anafiotika to Plaka is continuous and at once you are again at the slopes of Plaka with its taverns and balkonies

You are in the Mnisikleous Street here with lots of taverns, but not just recommended. Over that the proprietors get really on your nerves by their invitations!
