An den Vororten der Süd-Seite von Attika, die sogenannte "Apollo- Küste", findet man sehr viele Plätze nicht nur für Strand-Leben sondern auch von natürlicher Schönheit! Das einzige Problem ist der Transport dahin. Die Busse sind nicht bekannt für ihre Pünktlichkeit und während der Stosszeit meist restlos überfüllt. Also: nimm lieber die Taxi oder einen Mietwagen! Um Dir ein Bild über das Gebiet zu machen, schau Dir die folgende Karte von Attika an. Wichtig: Um die richtigen Fotos zu sehen, bitte auf das gewünschte Kleinbild klicken. Die Fotos öffnen sich dann in einem extra Fenster. Wegen der Foto-Qualität sind allerdings diese um die 100kB, d.h. es kann etwas dauern bis das Foto erscheint. Bitte dann um Geduld. |
At the suburbs of the south coast of Attica, the so-called Apollo-coast, you will find many places not only for "beach life" but also of a wild natural beauty. The only problem being the transportation, as the public transports by buses are not famous as of their punctuality! And during the rush hours they are usually so full that you can hardly find a place to stay! Well either taxi or rent-a-car! For your orientation have a look in the following Map of Attika. | Die Schlacht von Salamis Bevor man Piräus verlässt, kann man einen Abstecher zum nahen Perama machen, wo man zur Insel Salamis übersetzen kann. Eigentlich nur um einen Blick auf den Platz der historischen Schlacht zu werfen, die 480 v.Chr. zwischen Griechen und Persern hier stattfand. Man kann sich kaum vorstellen, wie so etwas möglich war und hier kann man sich es realisieren! |

The battle of Salamis And before leaving Piraeus we should also make a trip to the near Perama, the place where you can pass to the island of Salamis. Actually only the place of the ancient battle between the greeks and the persians at 480 B.C. On learning it at school it is hardly possible to realise the problems the persians had to handle with their big ships. Here you can see why! |
| Küste von Palaion Faliron Nach der Piräus-Halbinsel und in Richtung zum Flughafen erreichen wir zuerst den Vorort Palaio Faliro. Und obwohl die Leute sagen, das Wasser sei hier vom nahen Hafen verschmutzt, Du wirst immer wieder hier Mengen von Schwimmern sehen. |

Coast at Palaio Faliro After the Piraeus peninsula on following the coast line in direction to the airport you will arrive first at the suburb Palaio Faliro. Although the people says that the water is not very clean because of the vicinity to the Piraeus you will find lot of people enjoying a bath there. |
| Auf der Faliro-Promenade Wenn der Abend kommt füllt sich diese Promenade mit Menschen, die auf und ab wandeln, sich warme Nüsse oder gerösteten Mais kaufen und allesamt die schöne Aussicht und die Meeresbrise geniessen. Im Hintergrund sieht man die Lichter von Piräus. |

On the Faliro promenade And when the evening comes there is a very long promenade along the coast, where you can walk and enjoy the beautiful sight. Of course many stands where you can buy warm nuts and roasted corn. In the background the illuminated Piraeus peninsula. |
| Die St.Konstantin-Kirche Jeden Abend hatte man dieses Bild an dieser Kirche nahe am Strand von Glyfada sehen können. Wegen der Bebauung mussten die Flugzeuge recht knapp über die Häuser abfliegen oder landen. Seit der Inbetriebnahme des neuen Flughafens bei Spata gehört dieses Bild der Vergangenheit an. |

The St. Konstantin church At Glyfada you could see this picture every day. Because of the vicinity of the airport to the housing area, the engines did start and land just over the top of the houses. After the opening of the new airport at Spata, is that picture a thing of the past. |
| Die Küste von Glyfada Eine der nächsten Plätze nach Faliro ist Glyfada, ein sehr schöner Vorort, nicht nur wegen seinem Strand, sondern auch wegen der vielen modernen Geschäften an seinem Zentrum. Diesen Anblick hat man meist beim Anflug während der Vormittag-Stunden. Der Flughafen ist auch an diesem Vorort, direkt am Strand. |

The coast at Glyfada One of the next places after Faliro is the really very nice suburb Glyfada, because not only of its wonderful beaches but also of its great suburb center! You will have the view of this photograph on arriving by air during the day hours. The airport is also in this suburb and directly at the coast. |
| Der Vouliagmeni-See Wenn wir auf der Küsten-Strecke weiter fahren, erreichen wir bald diesen See, direkt neben dem Strand. Der Name bedeutet die "Versunkene" und stammt davon her, dass der Waaser-Spiegel vom See tiefer liegt als der vom umliegenden Meer. |

The Vouliagmeni Lake Continuing on the coast we will pass Vouliagmeni, the next suburb with its famous Lake. Actually the name has its origin just in this Lake and does mean "the sunken" because its level is lower as of the sea just over the street. |
| Heilbetrieb Nach der chemischenAnalyse vom Wasser des Sees soll er Heil-Eigenschaften haben. Es wurde deshalb ein Bad-Betrieb dort mit Physiotherapie und andere Anwendungen eingerichtet. |

Health ressort According to the chemical analysis the water of the Lake includes some minerals allowing to regard it as spa water. There is of course a complete spa station there with physiotherapists and all the connected applications. |
| Bei Varkiza Der nächste Vorort ist Varkiza, auch sehr bekannt wegen seines schönen Strandes und des klaren Wassers. Im Photo sieht man gerade den kleinen Hafen vom Ort. |

| Kap Sounion Am Ende der Apollo-Küste erreicht man das Kap Sounion mit dem Poseidon-Tempel darauf. An dieser Stelle soll der König Aegeus auf seinem Sohn Thesseus, der auf Kreta den Minotaurus töten wollte, gewartet und sich ins Meer gestürzt haben. |

Sounion Cape At the end of the Apollo Coast you will arrive at the Sounion Cape with the Poseidon Temple on the top of the hill. At this place waited king Aigeus of Athens for the return of his son Theseus from his expedition to Crete to kill the minotaurus. |
| Die Ebene von Mesogeia Hinter den Bergen, die Athen umgeben, erstreckt sich diese breite, fruchtbare Ebene, sehr bekannt für ihre Weinberge, die vielen Weindörfer und natürlich ihre Weine! Auf dem Photo kann man übrigens die Bau-Arbeiten für den neuen Flughafen von Athen bei Spata erkennen. |

The Mesogeia Plain Behind the mountains surrounding Athens and at the northern coast of Attika there is the fertile Mesogea Plain well-known for its vineyards. On the photograph you can just see the construction works for the new Athens airport at Spata. |
