at the Parkinson's ball The 2001 ball on Saturday, September 29th, organised by the Parkinsons's Disease Society at the London Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane raised a phenomenal £250,000 for the charity, largely due to the generous sponsorship of the "Next" fashion store, and the support from Next deputy chairman David Jones, who has Parkinson's disease.

Guest of honour was the Duchess of Gloucester, patron of the charity. Compere for the evening was television news presenter Martyn Lewis, who obviously enjoyed introducing Dame Shirley Bassey as the star cabaret.
