The romance of the desert inspired the decor for this years Rose Ball, or Bal de la Rose at the Monte Carlo Sporting Club in Monaco, which raised funds for the Princess Grace foundation. Arabic arches framed the view over the Mediterranean and in front of each place setting was a desert rose rock crystal.
The ball was hosted by Prince Ernst of Hannover and Princess Caroline of Monaco...
Vis-a-vis to Shirley Bassey sat Stanislas de Quercize.

Prince Albert of Monaco Enthusiastically participated in the bidding at an auction at the NSPCC-Zonta End Child Abuse Full Stop Charity Gala Dinner at the Hermitage Hotel in Monte Carlo.
The proceeds of more than £80,000 were shared between the NSPCC and Zonta International, a Monte Carlo-based charity which supports UNICEF in its aim to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus.
The photos show Dame Shirley Bassey with Patrick Dupond, the director of the Paris Opera Ballet.
Guest of honour was the Duchess of Gloucester, patron of the charity. Compere for the evening was television news presenter Martyn Lewis, who obviously enjoyed introducing Dame Shirley Bassey as the star cabaret.
The party was in Elton John's Villa Castel Mont-Alban in the South of France.
