SHIRLEY BASSEY'S single 'WHERE DO I BEGIN' is to be remixed and re-released on July 10 through EMI
Shirley Bassey remixed and re-released
awayTeam, Ian Davenport and Andy Lovegrove, claim to have chosen 'Where Do I Begin', the theme to the film 'Love Story', as it was a favourite of their mothers'
Ian said: "As kids, our mums seemed to watch Love Story endlessly so the song is familiar to us on a subconscious level firstly." Of their own track Andy added: "Shirley's version was very groovy and we thought we could expand on that. We felt it always needed a Tony Bennett-style swinging chorus so we gave it one." awayTeam have also just recorded a song for a movie themselves. Their tune appeared on the soundtrack of the screen adaptation of Iain Banks's novel 'Complicity'.
A note from the promo video "Where Do I Begin":
Ladies and gentlemen, Miss Shirley Bassey...
"Where Do I Begin" is the first single to be taken from the forthcoming
Shirley Bassey Remix Album 'History repeats' containing remixes of classic Bassey
songs by the likes of Kenny Dope, Propellerheads, Groove Armada and Moloko
to name but a few. 'Where Do I Begin' has been remixed by The Awayteam
who describe it as "Sassy, Bond-style-sex, romance and glamour.'
Throughout the forthcoming album and throughout the ever-progressing musical world
there remains one undeniable, unmistakable, lip quivering, unique constant -
the voice that is Shirley Bassey!
And here another message about the "Where Do I Begin" remix I found on the net:
... The first track to be released is 'Where Do I Begin', the song from the classic '70's film 'Love Story'. That's been remixed by the AWAYTeam, who told Radio 1 they're still waiting to meet the legend. Apparently, Bassey loves the new arrangement and they'd love to perform it with her: "She could do her own version! She's very slinky. She's a bit old but she's very glamorous," they laughed.
