1964 Shirley Bassey has performed the song live on a Carnegie Hall concert which has been released 1994 digitally remastered on the collection Bassey - The EMI/UA Years.
As far as I know Bart Howard wrote this song 1954 for the movie "Once Around" with the original title "In Other Words". I've also read that Oscar Hammerstein II shall have done something for the lyrics, but I'm not sure. 1962 Joe Harnell revived the song with the title "Fly Me To The Moon" which became one of the biggest hits of the bossa nova wave. 1964, one year after Shirley Bassey's recording, Frank Sinatra recorded the song with the Count Basie Orchestra arranged by Quincy Jones. "Fly Me to the Moon" had the fitting title and lyrics to be played 1969 by the Apollo 11 mission during the landing phase on the moon and they used Sinatra's recording. So it became the first song to be heard in the outer space. After the astronauts had returned to the earth they received an all-star tribute in Houston were Frank Sinatra again performed this song. All this made the song very famous and it is still one of the standards and literally hundreds of famous artists have performed and recorded it.
Poets often use many words
Fly me to the moon
And let me play among the stars
Let me see what spring is like
In other words
Fill my heart with song
And let me sing for ever more
You are all I long for
In other words
Fill my heart with song
And let me sing for ever more
You are all I long for
In other words
