The Songs of Shirley Bassey

No Regrets

Music written by Charles Gaston Dumont. The original French lyric had been written by Michel Jacques Vaucaire and the English lyric penned by Hal David. I found another information that Irving Taylor shall have written the English lyric, but I could not verify this, because I don't know Irving Taylor.

1965 released on a single. A live recording from 1964 available on the collection Bassey - The EMI/UA Years 1959 - 1979. The song is available on CD on many collections.

Previously sung by Edith Piaf in French "Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien" and also in English. I can give you the original French lyrics if you're interested.

Don't confound this song with the other song No Regrets with the same title sung by Shirley Bassey.

Lyrics:

No, no regrets
No, we will have no regrets
As you leave, I can say
Love was king, but for only a day

No, no regrets
No, let there be no regrets
Why explain
Why delay
Don't go away
Simply call it a day

Pleading moments we knew
I will set them apart
Ev'ry word, ev'ry sign
Will be burned in my heart
But no tears will be shed
There'll be no one to blame
Let it always be said
We attempted what came

No, no regrets
No, we will have no regrets
As you leave, I can say
Love was king, but for only a day

Life still goes on
Yes, even though love has gone
One last kiss
Shrug and sign
No Regrets even though it's goodbye
