The Songs of Shirley Bassey

All By Myself

Written by Eric Carmen.

Released on the 1982 album All By Myself and on some singles. Shirley Bassey has performed this song live many times, for example in 2000 on her Millennium Tour.

This song is originally from Eric Carmen's 1975 album "Carmen". Eric Carmen was the lead vocalist and songwriter of the early-'70s pop band "The Raspberries". The self-titled album was his debut album as solo artist. He had based "All By Myself" on pieces by Russian classical composer Serge Rachmaninoff. Eric Carmen didn't enjoy a big commercial success again after this album until 1987's "Hungry Eyes," from the "Dirty Dancing" concert tour.

Eric Carmen reached position #2 in the US Billboard 1976 and 1977 and received a gold-disc with his song. It has then been recorded by many other artists like for example Tom Jones. Celine Dion reached position #4 in the US Billboard 1997.

Lyrics:

When I was young
I never needed anyone
And making love was just for fun
Those days are gone

Living alone

I think of all the friends I’ve known
But when I dial the telephone
Nobody’s home

All by myself Don't wanna be

All by myself anymore
All by myself Don't wanna live
All by myself anymore

Hard to be sure

Some times I feel so insecure
And love so distant and obscure
Remains the cure

All by myself Don't wanna be

All by myself anymore
All by myself Don't wanna live
All by myself anymore

When I was young

I never needed anyone
And making love was just for fun
Those days are gone

All by myself Don't wanna be

All by myself anymore
All by myself Don't wanna live
All by myself anymore

All by myself Don't wanna be

All by myself anymore
All by myself Don't wanna live
All by myself anymore
