Stave churches and Stavanger Stave churches have been in Norway almost since 1000 years. Their form is derived from the old Viking ships - turned over. Today there are only 31 of these stave churches left in Norway. Stavanger is the supplying city for the oil drilling companies in the North sea. Gamle Stavanger the old town consists of old wooden houses from the 18th century. |

After a short drive using the ferryboat to cross the Lysefjord, we arrived at one of the main attractions of this area the Preikestolen a granite slab which plunges 600 m into the fjord below. A 2.5 hours hike through forests and steep and stony trails is required to see it - but the view is definitely worth the effort. |
