--- On this site you'll see some relief art that inspired my wish to create
an animated model of a bireme (liburna), a common Roman ship about 1900 years ago
The Romans controlled their river-borders by using liburnae for transporting and patrolling
It was later replaced by another type, called lusoria, during the reign of Constaninus I ---

--- Some fotos, taken from Traianus' column (erected around 110 AD)
There are mainly biremes to see, but also larger ones (triremes) ---

--- Coins that were minted during Hadrianus' era (117 - 138 AD)
The ships are very similar to those, we know from Traian's column ---

--- The first ship seems to already have this typical castellum at the bow (mid 1st c. AD)
The third one is about as old as Traianus' column and has an artemon-sail
In the third picture there's a river-vessel of the Roman age (220 AD), doing a civillian job
The last image shows another late Roman ship from the time of Constantinus I (327 AD) ---
