Daniel (Mark) Nestor was born on September 4th 1972 in Belgrade, Yugoslavia.
He imigrated to Canada with his parents in 1976 and grew up in Willowdale/ Ontario. Daniel has one older brother, Alex, and is married since july 24th 2005 to wife Natasha. Since december 15th, 2008 Natasha and Daniel are parents of a cute little daughter named Tiana.
In his young days, Daniel used to be a fan of Jimmy Connors, but he first started to play tennis, because his parents thought it would be a good idea to put him into a tennis school nearby.
In 1988, when Daniels talent for the sport became more and more obvious, Daniel was offered by his parents to attand the Nick Bolletieris Academy, but since he didn't want to be too far from home, Daniel decided to attend the All Canadian Tennis Academy in Downsview instead.
His decision to turn finally pro in 1992 was made after he won a historical 5-setter Davis Cup match against Stefan Edberg who held the no. 1 in singles at this time.
Today, Daniel is being described as one of the best player Canada has ever had.
In his spare time, he describes himself as "a big sportsman", who likes to watch and follow other sports. He played soccer and basketball growing up, likes Comedies and is still driving the black Jeep Cherokee he bought in 1999. He owns a nice little domicile in the Bahamas but still feels more at home in his home country, Canada.
In his career Daniel has won all 4 Grand Slam title, a goldmedall at the olympic games in Sydney as well as several major Master titles on the tour, most of them together with bahamian longtime partner and friend Mark Knowles, with whom he splitted in 2007. He is also a member of the canadian Davis Cup team since 1992 and has won several Canadian Excellence Awards during his career.
All in all, Daniel has become one of the leading figures in professional tennis doubles, even though he never intended to become a doubles specialist, but was forced to this decision due to a sore shoulder. Nevertheless it sounds more than satisfied when today he's saying: "I've matured as a player and I'm happy with where my career has gone."
