Charles Mhlauri

Biography

Born 1969 in Bulawayo, he grew up in Mpopoma Township at Block 51/1597, a house owned by his father, a Zimbabwean Omnibus driver. He is the first born in a family of seven.
Attended Lukanyiso primary school from grad 1 to grade 5. As a black township the only sports were athletics and football. Thus Mhlauri found himself playing for Zimbabwe Saints Under 12 Team. The team was coached by the late Jani Gwede. However the break up of war in Bulawayo between Zipra and Zanla combantants in 1980 forced the bus driver to send his son to Mashonaland where it was more peaceful. Thus he went to a boarding school called Waddilove Institute, a methodist missionary school located in Marondera where he learnt his Shona and completed his primary school.
Still the son found himself in the first team where he became popular as “Mundebere” for his strong Ndebele dialect. An adventist by birth was converted to “Methodism” by Rev. Matsikiti, a man who could recall any verse from old to new testament on the pulpit. Soccer instincts though deteriorated as emphasis was now on education where he found himself equal to the task, receiving a number of academic perfomance recognition awards.
After successful completion of 'A' level he attended Solusi University for a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree he joined the Standard Chartered Bank of Zimbabwe (Pvt) Ltd. and worked for four years before proceeding to the Commercial Bank of Zimbabwe where he resigned in 1995 to pursue personal business. He is a holder of various banking qualifikations.
He has been reading for a Bachelor of Laws (Hon) Degree through the University of South Africa.
