The museum was founded in 1968 in the premises of the historic air force airport in Prague - Kbely, which was the first air-base built after the formation of Czechoslovakia in 1918. As for the quantity and quality of collections, the museum ranks among the largest museums of aviation in Europe. At present the collections contain 275 aeroplanes, of that 85 are exhibited in four covered halls, 25 in uncovered exposition premises, 155 are placed in depositories and 10 flightworthy aeroplanes are operated. A lot of them represent the world-unique pieces.
The museum exhibition is devoted to the close history of Czechoslovak and Czech aviation, especially Air Force. The selected types of world-well-known aeroplanes are exhibited for comparison purposes and in addition, a great number of aircraft engines, parts of airframes, armament, equipment, uniforms, flags, badges and other relics referring to the history of Czechoslovak and Czech aviation are on exhibition.
Opening hours:
Museum is open daily from May to October from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., except for Monday.
