June 20, 2009 Scheeßel @ Hurricane

Wow! I need to say that I was no longer looking forward to this festival after two shows of FNM in three days. This one should be the third within a week. Well, I still wanted to see FNM but not in the festival surrounding since I can't really stand the festivals anymore. Too many shitty bands. I really should have gone to Nova Rock with both FNM and NIN performing on the very same day.

BUT, and it's a big BUT, this show was really definitely the best so far. Roddy really summed it up perfectly: "Hurricane was a blast! Awesome, awesome crowd. Pixies & Nick Cave: revelations". He also added the following picture:

Arriving late just to see Faith No More I was strolling around searching for my friend Pat who had been at the Festival since Thursday evening already. Unfortunately I wasn't lucky and didn't find him. Well, I checked out Social Distortion a bit but was not convinved at all. Pure lame rock. Yeah, and one could tell that the singer really is the white trash trailer park guy he was referring to when introducing their song "Story of my life" & talking about not making money by committing crimes in "Nickels & Dimes". Really boring.

However, wandering around I came to see a bunch of crazily dressed guys. Just succeeded in taking a picture of a few. Enjoy!

But back to THE event of the evening itself. After an intensive soundcheck including a bunch of cable switches and finetuning of Patton's mics, the show was about to start. Again, the crowd was mixed between youngsters (teens and early twens and mid-thirties to mid-fourties). Of course they started with "Reunited" once again. Fantastic, but no longer goosebumps as in the first two shows. Once again also followed by an extremely long "The Real Thing". Long, but still very good and intense.

After the first few songs Patton was addressing the crowd asking how many of them still knew FNM and how many of those were having babies these days now, or were being divorced. He then raised his hand and said that that he was going through a divorce. Not sure, but I think the either Spanish or Italian version of "Evidence" was played afterwards.

The crowd seemed to be liking and appreciating the show as far as I could tell from the front. Patton did a little band crescendo cheering game by having us from the audience shake and rise our hands to make the band play louder in order to finish "Just a Man".

Also Patton was wearing one of these pink T-mobile balloon-fingers for one song (don't remember which one)!

When trying to have the crowd sing the chorus of "Midlife Crisis" at the end of the song (which did not work to well), Patton stopped the song to ask both the crowd and the rest of the band whether they had seen any good bands today. Roddy simbolically zipped his mouth showing that he better kept his mouth shut, not willing to run into trouble later. Patton said that the Pixies were about the best band he had seen today and wanted to tell about all the bands that he didn't like, but didn't. Instead he decided to finish the song all of a sudden and quite surprisingly.

Faith No More thanking and applauding the fans

After the second encore you could really tell that the band appreciated the audience that night and that they all had enjoyed the evening at the Hurricane. hat the Pixies were about the best band he had seen today and wanted to tell about all the bands that he didn't like, b

Personally I would have loved to also hear Jizzlobber, Malpractice, RV, Crack Hitler, Everything's Ruined
