Part 3 - The Press Conference

On Wednesday morning, we met at the hotel and walked to the press conference. At the entrance, members of the press were allowed to select a Paparazzi of their own.

Inside The Supper Club, we had breakfast and coffee. A number of companies had displays for services and goods that may be mentioned on the Paparazzi Swatch under Swatch City function in New York. We arrived early and had time to view the various displays and enjoy some samples.

Godiva Chocolatiers introduced a new expensive line of chocolates - $75 a pound! We were given sample boxes (but not the $350 box in the picture!).

Eduardo checks out the breakfast offered by Cipriani. At the bar, we could enjoy all of these items. They were quite good!

Yoga Iyengar Institute demonstrated Yoga exercises. This kept us from having second portions at the breakfast bar!

A favorite exhibit was this exhibit from Bed – a club/restaurant where they serve you dinner in bed. Yes, we were allowed to sample the food.

A few Paparazzi super-Maxis were hung in the room. The messages on the faces changed throughout the event just like a real Paparazzi event. Several collectors dreamed of having one of these for their collections.

DJ $mall ¢hange from 90 Thompson spins provided very good music before the press conference.

Graffiti artist Dsense created a collage at the event.

Actor/Comedian Denis Leary started the press conference. He currently stars as a firefighter on a television show called Rescue Me.

Nick Hayek, Jr. joined Denis and presented a check for $25,000 for the Denis Leary foundation to support firefighters.

Nick Hayek, Jr. then told the press more about Paparazzi. He then introduced Bill Gates from Microsoft.

Nick and Bill talked about how the watch was produced by Swatch and Microsoft provides to information sent to the watch via MSN.com.

Bill Gates told us that the Paparazzi Swatch contains more computing power than the original IBM PC.

At one point, they both put on sunglasses. The press really liked taking pictures of them with the sunglasses on.

Carl Lewis joined them…..

Mischa Barton, star of the TV show “The O.C.” next joined them….

Denis Leary rejoined the group. These celebrities were selected because they represent different areas of information available via Paparazzi – technology, entertainment, sports, etc. They announced a Swatch Meet contest where some Paparazzi owners will have a chance for a special meeting with prominent celebrities. Imagine an expense-paid trip to Las Vegas to visit the Consumer Electronic Show with Bill Gates, a chance to visit the set of “The O.C.” or a chance to train with Carl Lewis. Some lucky Paparazzi owners will get to do just that!

A lot of Paparazzi covered the Paparazzi event!

Before the press conference, the Gold/Pioneer members were told to go to the Times Square Swatch Store after the press conference. Bill Gates and Nick Hayek, Jr. were going to the store to conduct additional press interviews and would meet the collectors if there was extra time.

Frank Furlan, Swatch Brand Manager in the USA, shows us his Paparazzi at the store. The other gentleman was a security guard.

Unfortunately, there was no extra time and Bill Gates did not have time to meet with the collectors after the press interviews. However, there is a small surprise at the end of this story.

One more surprise – three lucky draw winners from our group would be allowed to have a one-on-one meeting with Sting before a concert that evening. The lucky winners were Dotty, Henk, and Roy!

The afternoon was free. Some collectors had a leisurely lunch; others shopped, visited museums, or attended “Hairspray” on Broadway.
