English: Nagorno-Karabakh or Mountainous Karabakh
French: Haut-Karabakh
German: Berg-Karabach
Personally, I would prefer to call this country UPPER KARABAKH in English.
NKR, capital city Stepanakert, is situated in the Caucasus mountains between Armenia and Azerbaijan, from that NKR declared its independence on 6 January 1992, after a period as the "Autonomous Region of Nagorno-Karabakh" within the Azerbaijani SSR since 7 July 1923.
Although Nagorno-Karabakh or Artsakh is a very old territory of Armenian culture, Azerbaijan tried by war to prevent the secession until 1994.
Since May 1994 the weapons are silent.
In spite of all negotiations the future status of NKR is still unsolved...
