The
volontary Workcamps Association of Ghana,
called Volu, organizes about 30-40 camps every year, from
June to October and from December to January. They take place
in severalvillages in Ghana. In these workcamps, people from
Ghana and Europe support the villages in projects such as
the building- up of schools, hospitals and other things of
public utility. In 1956 Volu was established by a british
and is today, under african management, the biggest workcamp
organisation in Africa.Volu is financed by membership
subscriptions and supported by thegerman development service
(DED). For the charge of 200 US$, the european participators
get free accomodation and catering in the camps (not
including the flight). They become acquainted with life and
culture in a foreign country by working and living together
with the natives. With their work, they serve the agreement
between nations and help to improve life- quality in the
villages. For more informations you can contact Volu or
several german organisations (see adresses
below).
