Trolls
As the orcs were Melkor's mockery of the elves so the Trolls were a mockery of the ents of Yavanna. They were huge creatures used by Sauron in the War of the Ring.
Trolls can be classified in Cave-trolls, Hill-trolls, Mountain-trolls, Olog-hai, Snow-trolls and Stone-trolls.
A Cave-troll was in the attacking party when the Fellowship passed trough Moria, Sauron used Hill-trolls and Mountain-trolls in the War of the Ring. Bilbo and his party found Stone-trolls in the hills on their way to Rivendell. Aragorn´s grandfather Arador was slain by a Hill-troll in the hills north of Rivendell.
Except for the Olog-hai that have been specially bred by Sauron, Trolls could not endure the sunlight. In case of the Stone-trolls at least the turn to stone when exposed to the sun as shown in The Hobbit.
