Baley, Ben (Bentley)
Son of Elijah Baley, leader of the first post-Spacer colonization from Earth,
and a biographer of his father. (3-1-1,5; 4-I-4-12)
Baley, D.G. (Daneel Giskard)
Trader of Baleyworld, and seventh generation descendant of Elijah Baley. His
request to Aurora for the assistance of Gladia (Delmarre) in dealing with the
apparently abandoned but nonetheless aggressive robots of Solaria gave Giskard
Reventlov and Daneel Olivaw the opportunity to visit both Baleyworld and Earth.
Their experiences there had a significant influence on the later actions of
both. (4-I-4-11 etc.; 14-IV-11-48)
Baley, Elijah
Plainclothes police officer of the New York Police Force, assigned by Julius
Enderby to investigate the murder of Roj Nemennuh Sarton in Spacetown, and
later, on the recommendation of Han Fastolfe, the deaths of Rikaine Delmarre on
Solaria and Jander Panell on Aurora. He himself became the subject of study by
Fastolfe and his robot partner and subsequent close friend Daneel Olivaw, and,
later, Giskard Reventlov, providing them with first-hand knowledge of human
beings other than Spacers, a knowledge which significantly affected the future
actions of Fastolfe and both robots.
As a result of his own experiences on Solaria and Aurora, and particularly
through his meetings with Fastolfe, Baley himself encouraged his son Bentley to
become acclimatized to life in the open, outside of Earth's cities, in
preparation for the new wave of emigration to other planets which Fastolfe and
Giskard had convinced him was essential for the future of humanity. Shortly
after his return to Earth from the Panell investigation, he resigned from the
police and joined Ben's expedition to colonize what became known as Baleyworld.
Long after his death, he had acquired the status of a folk hero in the
mythologies of Alpha, Comporellon and Dahl. (1; 2; Mirror Image; 3;

movement. When Elijah joined the expedition to colonize Baleyworld she remained
on Earth. (1-4,6,14; 4-I-4-12)
Baleytown
Capital city of Baleyworld. (4-III-8-32)
Baleyworld

Empire, and prime mover in the Zealots' plan to launch a biological war on the

(5-9,12)
Bander, Sarton
Inhabitant of Solaria who met Golan Trevize, Janov Pelorat and Bliss during
their expedition in search of Earth. A hermaphrodite descendant of the original
Spacer colonizers, its intention to kill its visitors was thwarted when Bliss
blocked the output from its transducer lobes and killed it. (14-IV-10-46 etc.)
Barne, Gareth
Name used by Rik during his attempted escape from Florina. (5-8)
Barne, Hansa
Name used by Valona March during her attempted escape from Florina. (5-8)
Barr, Ducem
Sixth and youngest son of Onum Barr. As a gunner in the fleet of the successor
to Wiscard as Imperial Viceroy to Siwenna, he was responsible for the viceroy's
death. He was abducted by Bel Riose for his presumed knowledge of the
Foundation, on his escape returning via Trantor to Siwenna to lead a
pro-Foundation rebel movement. (11-I-1)

Former Patrician of the Empire and Senator of Siwenna, living in hiding on
Siwenna after its sacking by Imperial forces. (10-V-10; 11-I)

the Second Foundation. (13-V-17)

Supremacists. (4-III-9-34)
Bler

University was in the hands of the Second Foundation, it is quite possible that
it purposely encouraged the stagnation of nuclear technology in the
disintegrating Empire. (10-V-11)
Bliss (Blissenobiarella)
Gaian woman of twenty-three who met Golan Trevize and Janov Pelorat on their
arrival at Gaia, and, at the insistence of Pelorat, accompanied them back into
space for Trevize's meeting with Harla Branno and Stor Gendibal. After Dom had
concurred with Trevize that it was still important to find Earth, she
accompanied Trevize and Pelorat in a renewed, and ultimately successful, search
for Earth, in which her powers as Gaia proved indispensible. (13-17-71 etc.; 14)

Bort, Lewis
Foundation Action Party activist. (10-III-4)
Branno, Harla
Once the Foundation's Ambassador to Mandress, for twelve years the real power
behind two figurehead Mayors of Terminus and for five years an apparently
unadventurous but highly competent and ruthless Mayor herself, during which time
she attracted the nickname Branno the Bronze. At the age of sixty-two she
decided to fulfil an ambition to hasten the development of the Second Galactic
Empire by freeing the Foundation from the shadow of the Second Foundation, which
she believed still existed and exerted a covert influence over the Foundation.
Her belief that the Foundation's administrative capital should remain on
Terminus was backed by Seldon's appearance in the Time Vault, and she used the
resulting political power, and information supplied by Munn Li Compor, to remove
the troublesome Golan Trevize, who shared her beliefs about the nature of the
Second Foundation and the Seldon Plan, from Terminus and send him into exile in
an attempt to discover the location of the Second Foundation in order that she
could destroy it.
When she learned that Trevize had gone to the Sayshell Union, which had
maintained its independence from both the Mule and the expanding Foundation, and
was heading for the even more isolationist world of Gaia, she decided personally
to lead a military force to the area. There she became locked into a stalemate
of power with Stor Gendibal of the Second Foundation and Gaia, broken when
Trevize opted for Gaia's version of the future of the galaxy. With all memories
of the Second Foundation and of Gaia removed by Gaia, she returned to Terminus
satisfied with having successfully completed a trade agreement with the Sayshell
Union. (13)

Sura Novi. It was identical to Golan Trevize's Far Star except that its computer
was purposely designed to be less efficient. (13-18-77,79)
Brodrig, Ammal
Cleon II's Privy Secretary, sent to accompany Bel Riose on his expedition
against the Foundation. Brodrig was convinced by Lathan Devers that conquest of
the Foundation could lead to conquest of the galaxy, and enthusiastically
supported Riose's expedition, but a by then paranoid Imperium recalled him
without knowledge of his real aims. (11-I)

One of Santirix Gremionis' robots on Aurora. (3-11-48)
