Gotthard Driesch wurde am 19.05.1818 in Irlich geboren als Sohn des Gerichtsschöffen Johann Driesch und dessen Frau Anna Gertrud, geb. Hubaleck.

Der erste Hinweis, dass Gotthard nach Amerika ausgewandert ist, fand sich in einem Brief des Franz Dames aus dem Jahre 1850. Darin fragte dieser seine Eltern, ob Gotthard Driesch noch in Pittsburgh sei. Die weitere Suche förderte das Protokoll einer Erbauseinandersetzung von 1864 vor dem Schöffengericht Irlich zu Tage. Dort trat der Schultheiss Pinger auf als Bevollmächtigter des "Gotthard Driesch in America". 

Ein weiter Bevollmächtigter bei o.g. Erbauseinandersetzung vertrat Louise und Emerich Gerdom "in America". Nachforschungen ergaben, dass die Schwester von Gotthard Driesch, Anna Maria (*28.05.1810) im Jahre 1832 Emmerich Joseph Gerdom (*18.09.1807) geheiratet hatte und mit ihm nach Andernach gezogen war. Anna Maria starb früh und ihr Mann heiratete 1845 erneut. Bei den ausgewanderten Gerdom's könnte es sich um Emmerich und eine Tochter handeln. Es gab aber auch einen Emmerich junior, geboren 1840.

Nach langer, erfolgloser Suche im amerikanischen Internet wurde ich im September 2002 schließlich fündig. Mrs. Gruver, eine Ahnenforscherin aus Nevada hatte ihren Vorfahren Gotthard Driesch in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania ermittelt. Allerdings konnte jemand in einem Archiv die alte Schrift nicht richtig lesen und gab als Geburtsort "Gerlich Rhein, Preissen" an anstatt "Irlich Rhein, Preussen". 

Gotthard Driesch hat also um 1850 in Pittsburgh eine Catharina Fischer aus Mt. Pleasant geheiratet. Folgende Kinder wurden ermittelt: John (*13.06.1851), Albert (*um 1855), John Peter (*21.03.1857), Anna Catharina (*30.06.1859), Rupert (*09.07.1861), Maria (08.02.1863) und Philomena (*24.06.1865).

Einzig von John Peter Driesch fanden sich bisher Nachkommen. Er hat 1880 Rosina Schiffhauer geheiratet und bekam mit ihr 6 Kinder in Pittsburgh. Der Name Driesch ist heute noch stark vertreten in der Gegend.

Gotthard Driesch was born in Irlich on May 19, 1818 as the son of the councilman Johann Driesch and his wife Anna Gertrud, born Hubaleck.

The first record that Gotthard emigrated to America is found in a letter by Franz Dames in the year 1850.  In the letter Franz asks his parents if Gotthard Driesch is still living in Pittsburgh. Further search thus far yields the record of an estate settlement action in 1864 before the justice council of Irlich.  There the Schultheiss Pinger appeared as the agent of “Gotthard Driesch in America”.

Another agent at the above mentioned estate action represented Louise and Emerich Gerdom “in America”.  Research yielded that the sister of Gotthard Driesch, Anna Maria (born May 28, 1810) married Emmerich Joseph Gerdom (born September 18, 1807) in 1832 and moved with him to Andernach.  Anna Maria died early and her husband Emmerich married again in 1845.  For the  emigrated Gerdoms there is information for Emmerich and a daughter.  There was, however, also an Emmerich junior, born in 1840.

After a long, fruitless search in the American Internet there was finally a discovery in September 2002. Mrs. Gruver, a genealogist in Nevada, had identified an ancestor, Gotthard Driesch in Pittsburg, Allegheny County, in Pennsylvania.  However, one could not correctly read the old writing in the archives and it gave the birth place as “Gerlich Rhein, Preissen” instead of “Irlich Rhein, Prussia”.

Gotthard Driesch married in 1850 in Pittsburgh to a Catharina Fischer from Mt. Pleasant.  The following children were identified:  John  (*06.13.1851), Albert (* 1855), John Peter (*03.21.1857), Anna Catharina (*06.30.1859), Rupert (*07.09.1861), Maria (02.08.1863) und Philomena (*06.24.1865).

Only descendents have been found thus far for John Peter Driesch.  He had married Rosina Schiffhauer in 1880 and had 6 children with her in Pittsburgh.  The name Driesch is still today strongly represented in the area.
