Nepenthes macfarlanei


N. macfarlanei is a nice but very slow growing species needing very high humidity to pitcher well. This plant is about four years old and propably originates from G. Ulu Kali. N. macfarlanei is well known for its white hairs under the lid which only two other species share. Also special for this plant are the very long tendrils it grows. They might get a length of up to 90cm according to Clarke.


Update 29.11.2003:

N. macfarlanei didn't like my normal Nepenthes substrat at all and stopped growing after I repotted it in August 2002. After repotting it in pure living Sphagnum it started to grow again. The tendrils have reached a length of about 40 cm and pitcher size has increased to 12cm.


This is another clone of N. macfarlanei with a more typical near to white colouration of the pitcher. Under good light levels the red colouration of this clone got darker:
