N. villosa is like N. diatas an ultra higland plant. The left picture shows a two year old plant grown from TC. The pitcher seen in the upper left corner opened three weeks later and can be seen on the middle picture. Sadly these small pitchers die a short time after feeding which is from my experience still the best way to get nutrients into the plant. The picture at the right side shows the same plant in the same pot 18 months earlier. It shows how slow this plant grows. This picture is only a small part from a scanned slide so please excuse the bad quality.
Update July 2003:

I changed the soil of N. villosa to pure living Sphagnum a few months ago to reflect the natural habit. The plant is still difficult to pitcher, but it responds well to a foliar feeding. Leafes get burned very easily so I water the whole plant very well the next morning after spraying the plant with the strongly diluted fertilizer.
Update December 2003:
With lower temperatures N. villosa has again started to grow better and started to produce pitchers with a better developed peristome. Of course pitchers still doesn't look similar to adult ones.
