N. xiphioides is a small montane species closely related or even identical to N. gymnamphora and N. pectinata depending on which taxonomist you follow. The plants I got labeled N. gymnamphora are so different from this N. xiphioides that I still use the name I got this plant under. I am no taxonomist at all but maybe N. xiphioides will gain species rank again in the future - who knows?
The cultivation of N. xiphioides is as easy supplying typical highland conditions with lower temperatures by night and very bright light levels. To grow and pitcher well I have the impression a good portion of Sphagnum moss is needed as soil supplement. The pitchers and especially the stem turns to a nice colouration under good light levels. On the right picture a pitcher grown in the soil can be seen. This one did grow without any light and did stay all green without red colouration.
