| Approx. 1.100 men were shipped from Egypt to camp No. 101 at Basra, 450 of km southeast of Baghdad in the beginning of 1946. Mid 1946 the ICRC reported two further camps indicated with No. 48 and No. 85. and an occupancy of 2.613 men there. The POW's were employed in the construction of houses, road construction and the guarding of British army depositories. In the beginning of February 1947 were 1.890 men in Iraq and they were shipped to Egypt within the fall. |
