The headquarter for the administration of the war prisoners in Germany and Austria was located in Baden-Baden. It was called "Direction de Prisonniers de Guerre Allemagne - Autriche". To the "Dépôt principal" Nr. 2301 in Baden-Baden were subordinated three "Dépôts de transit":
- Bretzenheim
- Tuttlingen
- Malschbach
Furthermore for labor three "Dépôts principaux":
- #231 in Waldkirch for the south zone
- #232 in Bretzenheim for the north zone
- #233 in Innsbruck for Austria
The labor in Germany and Austria was not very large. Prisoners who were fit for labor got transported to France. At 04/01/1946 were 28.200 prisoners on German and Austrian soil in French custody. At 06/01/1947 it were 18.600 and in September 1948 the last French camps were disbanded.
