In his book Broken Music" Sting describes that it was a 3-week-tour (?) through Holland and Belgium. He mentions Groningen as the first gig, then Eindhoven, Rotterdam, Nijmegen, Maasbree and FINALLY Amsterdam. Definitely says it's the end of the tour there. Next day travelling back from Zeebrugge to Folkestone. He doesn't mention the Paris gig.

The Visual Documentary mentions a 9 day Holland tour.

Henry mentions The Police were in a Dutch recording studio for some demos, among them Don't Give Up Your Daytime Job.

L'Historia Bandido mentions a tour through Holland with a gig at the Palais de Glace including the following bands:

hello there, just came to visit and saw some questions ..so...when we went to bazza's studio, we just got back from the mont de marsan festival .we went there with john cale and we recorded 'visions of the night' and 'dead end job'. well, john was drunk and was reading the papers most of the time. i seem to remember that sting was quite upset and that john didn't like andy. he also insisted for me to do the guitar solos which andy didn't accept..he even said in the end..ok but do the solos with henry's guitar..in the end we had fun as john was everything but an idiot and as we liked what we were hearing..the version of visions of the night we recorded is the one you can hear on the message in a box , complete recordings box set. i don't know what happened to dead end job. after the recording sting and i went to my flat and discussed the future of the police without me, something i could feel was in the air..i decided to go back to corsica , to spend a well earned holiday . i had just realised that i had been there for about 9 months when i had originally forecast staying about a couple of weeks when i departed to england in december 76 ..oops..
i simply promised myself to return as soon as possible to continue the adventure. take care. henry

THE POLICE only played as a backing group for Eberhard Schoener's music.
On one of these dates (probably 13-05) Andy's amp didn't work and was replaced by an
amp from another musician (who was in the audience). After that Andy asked him if he could book a concert for the next off-day (15-05), but efforts for this planned gig in Uslar/Solling failed. Andy just asked for a fee of 300,- DM!!

December 2, the next ad on December 9 doesn't list this gig anymore. A small
article in the December 9 issue mentions that the gig had to be cancelled because of a
ticket printers' strike. The concert on 15-12-1978 at Stoke is mentioned in two different
ads in Sounds issues December 2 and 9. However the small article and the list of
concerts in Sounds December 9 both mention that there will be a Stoke concert on
December 16! The December 15 gig at Stoke is not mentioned anymore... The Sounds ad
from December 2 also lists a gig on December 2 at Aston University, which probably
didn't take place. Lots of question marks here...)

Jeff Seitz about recording for BRIMSTONE:
As for the Brimstone and Treacle sessions, I recorded my drum parts at a studio that was adjacent to the sound stage where Sting was filming. I believe it was called ROCK HOUSE or something similar, I can't remember exactly. It was on the Shepperton studio lot. Sting would write and record demos in the studio while he was waiting for the film crew to set up a shot or adjust lighting, etc. He had recorded several tracks, playing all the instruments himself, and had used a drum machine for rhythm. I was visiting the stage with my friend and coworker Danny Quatrochi when Sting asked if I would record some drums on the demos. The studio crew went across to THE WHO's equipment storage facility and came back with a couple of drums and accessories. We set them up in the studio and I basically recorded the songs with the drum machine as a guide track.
I recorded ONLY YOU, a track which later became THE CHILDREN'S CRUSADE, and possibly others.
If my memory serves me correctly, THE POLICE tracks were recorded while on tour, possibly in America, on a day in between shows. I'll have to research those details further to be sure!

Two members of the supergroup Police, Sting and Andy Summers spent a week in Studio 2 working on the soundtrack for Sting’s feature film Brimstone and Treacle, whilst composer Jerry Goldsmith completed the Omen series the same year when he recorded Final Conflict in 1981.

It was August 26th when they arrived in Winnipeg via their private jet. They arrived here after playing 2 nights in Minneapolis, Minnesota and we were in the middle of a heat wave.

Tickets had gone on sale the first Monday in August. Radio stations were announcing that The Police were confirmed for the 27th and fans scambled to get downtown that Monday to buy tickets. At the time, you could only purchase tickets in person at one location. Tickets were $15.75 and sold out that day.

A few stories I caught wind of during their visit. One story is from a friend who drove out to the airport and climbed up on a chain link fence near where two limo's were waiting. Their plane landed and out walked the three blonds and their entourage. All three signed autographs for my buddy and Sting and Stewart seemed a little "crabby". Andy of course was joking around. Sting and Andy got into one limo and Stewart got into the other. Not sure why.

While in town they snuck into a local movie theatre and saw "Risky Business" (Tom Cruise). News got out very quickly that they were in the movie theatre and there was a crowd waiting outside. A young female artist gave Andy a painting she entitled "Tea In The Sahara" Andy was apparantly extremely accomodating and appreciative to her gesture.

Another quick story. The Police stayed at a hotel called the Hotel Fort Garry. At the time, Winnipeg's finest. In the basement of the hotel was one of the best alternative music bars around and hosted live acts. The night of the 26th, Stew and Andy walked down to the bar where there was a long line-up waiting to get in. The young woman working the admission just looked up and told them to take the back of the line. SHE DIDN'T KNOW WHO THEY WERE!!!. Stew and Andy didn't say a thing and turned around and were escorted into the bar via a few back doors. Meanwhile, the people recognized them and reamed out the young woman for not allowing them into the bar.

The night of the concert was (of course) extremely exciting. The Police were #1 EVERYWHERE and all over the radio and T.V. I got there early with my buddies and just stared at the Winnipeg Arena (where they played) like it was a monument. They took the stage at 8:00 p.m. after a quick warm up from The Thompson Twins. The played 21 songs, everyone of them burning. The only frustrating part was that the large television screens over the stage went out of order during "Spirits In the Material World" and we didn't get to see them go backstage just prior to the first encore.

They played 110 minutes to a crowd of 16,300 screaming fans. People were dancing the whole time and it was scorching hot inside because the air conditioning system could not keep up.

Press reviews were FANTASTIC. At the time, it was the largest indoor concert Winnipeg had ever hosted.

A few years later I hit the jackpot. One of my first jobs was at a video store. A guy walked in and asked if he could use a coupple of the stores VCR's to copy his KISS concerts. In return he would provide me with a copy. I asked what else he had. He pulled out a list which included an AUDIO copy of the Synchronicity concert here in Winnipeg. I have the good fortune of re-living that concert any time I wish.

* NOTE - The only other date The Police played Winnipeg was October 21st, 1980. They played the Winnipeg Arena to 6,000 fans. XTC was the warm up act. This gig was played immediately after they played in Essen, Germany on the 19th.

They wore the same outfit for all the shows except the 31st where Andy wore different trousers (the untastful yellow ones he wore in 1984 towards the end of the tour). And Sting wore the red strides, where on Craig's pics he wears black ones.
