Using
Java 1.5 on eCS
Unfortunately
there is no actual java for eCS. Innotek stopped development after
jdk1.4.2_09. May new java apps like my favorite apps TV-Browser does
not work. So i played a bit around with the different odin-incarnations
from netlabs and innotek. To my surprise, jdk 1.5.0_07 for windoze
works with innowin. Here's the trick:
- Install an innowin-based app like acrobat for os/2.
- Make
use of the starter app "aros2.exe". It has basically the same function
as pe.exe for odin. You propably have winXP on an other partition of
your PC. Create a program object like this
- Tada! Thats it. Here is the screeshot of TV-Browser running
on eCS
- Java reports itself correctly as 1.5.0_07 on NT 4
- Hints
- I've tested several version of jdk. Only jre1.5.0_07
works on innowin. No jre1.6.0 so far...
- Maybe the jre-functionality is not fully supported by
innowin. TV-Browser seems to work prefect. Other apps maybe do not...
- It is probably a good idea to make a local copy of the
Java\jre1.5.0_07-directory in the eCS Programs folder
