I've started hacking the gfx as well, using
Mr. Click's TilEd (a really nice program ^_^).
The first thing I did when hacking the gfx was... guess what? Right, putting
Angela in a bikini ^_^ The character you run around with is completely done
and has been fully inserted in the Rom. The status screen pics are done either,
and as of now, I've inserted them as well! ^_^
The second gfx hack I've done this far is giving Angela better eyes. Normally,
all characters only have black dots for eyes - I've fixed this now for Angela.
Her eye color depends on her actual class.
Then I'm of course still improving the colors. As you probably know, the colors
of the different classes in SD3 aren't all that great... some even suck
tremendously, and you wonder what the hell they were smoking when they came up
with that, e.g. Angela and many others get gray hair when doing a light class
change - gross, isn't it? >_<;;
So, besides the gfx improvements, you'll also get much better colors which don't
cause you brainpain when looking at them.
Future features
I've started a new game (once again ^_^) with Lise, Angela and Carlie and will
fix all NPCs I come upon during my way. The first results (Rolante castle, Palo,
Astoria) can already be see in this version (1.4). More to come as I proceed.

you'd better not use it, since it tries to imitate the braindead German "translation"
of its predecessor (idiotically renamed to 'Secret of Mana').

As you can see below, it works with the Japanese, the English translated and the German translated version of the Rom. Also, it can be applied over previous versions of the patch.
And now to something completely different ^__^
I'll tell you about the super-secret.... <drumroll>
The precondition is that you must play the game without using a single spell (that includes coins, statues, scales and claws) until you get your second class change. Then, when you are actually doing your second class change, right after selecting the item for your desired class, quickly enter this super-secret cheat-code on your controller:
Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, A, B.
You must enter the whole cheat before the class change is complete, or it won't work. If you did it correctly (and fulfilled the precondition), the result will look like this: (here with the Rune Mage as example).
