Ugandas music scene is full and lively. There is music for every taste. You can find groups, individual artists, traditional music or (religious) choirs. No matter if you search for contemporary Ugandan music, gospel songs or hip-hop in Luganda, you will find it. There is music for every taste.

 

 

You are fan of Hip Hop or Rap? Good for you as in Uganda you will be stunned about the vital Hip Hop scene in Uganda. There are names like Chameleon, Bataka Underground, Jonty, Viboyo, MSB or Ngoni for Hip Hop or contemporary Ugandan music. They can all be found on the website mentioned above, which will offer you not only more information on these bands and individuals, but also very many sound clips, so that you get also an ear full of the variety of Uganda.

 

But the country is also rich of traditional music. The instruments you see on this website are all traditional Ugandan instruments. There are wooden flutes, the amadinda, which is a traditional wooden xylophone, Ugandan drums, the enkwanzi, which are panpipes or the budongo, so-called thumbpianos. Beside of these instruments there are also other traditional instruments like endongo which is a lyre, enaanga which is a harp or endingidi which is a fiddle.

Where you have music you also have dance. The flutes you can see above are called endere and his word will remind you to Ndere - the name for the famous Ndere Troupe. The troupe has chosen this name as it represents a worldwide unity, because in every culture, in every nation and in mostly every tribe you will find flutes to provide people with music. The Ndere Troupe was founded in 1986 and represents strong cultural and educational messengers around the world. The build a perfect bridge between music and dance over to theatre. The have toured around the world and also have been to Austria several times. Other countries include Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Canada and Kenya. The instruments they use to accompany their songs range from the amadinda to the endigidi and the dances include the kizino (Bakiga), Ding Ding (Acholi) and the Bakisimba (Buganda).
