Dramatic showpiece quarreling with the figure of Kullervo from Kalevala : »The deepest cause of Kullervos misfortune lay in the fact that nature had made him a hero, but fate had subjugated him to slavery. The primary topic of this poem is the fatalism characteristic of the Finnish world view. It has been easy for Finnish men to identify with the figure of Kullervo.
According to a finnish psychiatrist, the role model for men in Finnish culture is a superman who advances inexorably toward his fate, which may even be suicide. Men feel they are not supposed to show their emotions, they are not permitted to cry or to show weakness. Kullervos tragic fate may also be regarded as a model for heroic suicide - a common phenomen in Finland. The tragedy of Kullervo proved to be a subject deeply felt and portrayed by Finnish artists.«
