| Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy offers a vast array of different methods. I work
with Traumatherapy Somatic Experiencing® (in short: SE) as well
as Gestalt therapy (founded by Fritz Perls).
Below you will find a short description of reasons that lead to
choosing Gestalt- and/or Trauma therapy.
Indications to enter Trauma therapy SE (Somatic
Experiencing):
- You have experienced something (life-)threatening which keeps
coming back in flashbacks, nightmares or otherwise impedes your
life. This might be an accident, an operation or an act of violence.
And it can either be a one off experience or something that kept
going on; it may have happened recently or years ago.
- You want to regain your inner peace, you want to stop avaoiding
certain places and be free of anxieties.
How it works
SE (Somatic Experiencing) is a gentle and profound short-term
approach to discharging surplus energies held in the body from trauma.
Although its medium is mainly converstion, SE is not psychotherapy
in the accustomed sense. It is a therapy that centers on the reduction
of tension in the nervous system, thus operating on a physical level
(while its main mode is conversation). The decrease in tension will
affect thoughts, feelings, attitudes and behaviour even if they
are not directly linked to the trauma.

Indications to enter Gestalt therapy:
- You have the feeling that certain undesireable patterns in
your life are recurrent (For example: Relationships don´t
last long; you stick with relationships long after their expiration
date; you are not being taken seriously by others; you can´t
seem to get your feelings across to others; you feel defenceless)
- You might feel empty, without drive or emotionally numb (You
may have the feeling your life is grey)
- You may have the feeling that you are not making the best out
of who you are, you don´t “live” enough (You
might think: Well, this can´t have been it!?)
- You might face limiting anxieties (You might even have problems
leaving your flat).
- You might find yourself in the middle of a crisis (Triggered
for example by a break-up of a relationship, the death of someone
dear, being out of work or a severe illness).
How it works
Gestalt therapy is a psychotherapy that uses the means of conversation
as well as acting and artistic expression. Changing inadequate patterns
of behaviour and experience, ones that produce more suffering than
satisfaction, is the aim. Gestalttherapy assumes that you already
have everything you need to master difficulties and to be satisfied.
It helps to uncover the many facetts a human personality contains
and thus enhances its growth. You start to confront what you have
been avoiding. You let those parts gently mature that have been
underfed and crippled. You gain new strength and a more blazing
feeling of life, as well as new insights and convictions. You let
your wounds heal, acknowledge the scars and move on with renewed
energy.
