All The King's Men - Story & Videos
The film bases on the Robert Penn Warren novel, for which he won the Pulitzer Price in 1946. The novel is about the life of the at first idealistic and ambitious, later corrupt and unscrupulous politician Willie Stark (Sean Penn). The figure is loosely based on the former governor Huey Long of Louisiana. The story is told by cynical Jack Burden (Jude Law), who works for Stark and observes his rise and fall. The novel is acknowledged to be one of the best american political novels of all time.
With Sean Penn, Jude Law, Kate Winslet, Anthony Hopkins, James Gandolfini (The Sopranos) and Patricia Clarkson (Aunt Sara in 'Six Feet Under') the film presents an outstanding cast. 'All
the King's Men' is directed by Steven Zaillian, who up to today is
known better as a writer of brilliant screenplays, such as the early Sean
Penn film 'The Falcon and the Snowman' and films like 'Schindlers Liste', 'Hannibal',
'Gangs of New York'and 'The Interpreter'. For 'All the King's Men' he wrote the screenplay and works as director and producer as well.
