December 20, 2006 -  Sean Penn receives the "Christopher Reeve First Amendment Award"


The award comes from "The Creative Coalition" (www.thecreativecoalition.org). 

This organisation was founded in 1989 by prominent figures in the creative community, including actors Alec Baldwin, Ron Silver, Christopher Reeve and Susan Sarandon. TCC educates and mobilizes leaders in the arts community on issues of public importance, specifically in the areas of First Amendment rights, arts advocacy and public education. 

Presented since 1997, The Christopher Reeve First Amendment Award recognizes individuals who are dedicated to the sanctity of the first amendment and its free speech provision.

 Novemeber 30, 2006 -  IFP's Gotham Award for Tim Robbins - presented by Sean Penn

The IFP's Gotham Award celebrated the best in independent film. The awards, which were named "Half Nelson" as best picture, as well as citing its helmer Ryan Fleck as breakthrough director.

As the first awards of the season, the Gothams are closely watched as an indicator for the Oscar race, in which relatively few favorites have emerged.

Tim Robbins received a Humanitarian Tribute presented by his "Mystic River" co-star Sean Penn.


 November 16, 2006 -  'All The King's Men' announced for Blu-ray and DVD

Sony Pictureshas announced 'All The King's Men' will be available on Blu-ray Disc and Special Editon DVD on December 19.

Technical specs have not been made available though you can expect the following extra features on both versions: Deleted Scenes; Making of All The Kings Men Featurette; Shake Hands with the Devil; An American Classic; The Legend and Lore of Huey Long; and La. Confidential: On Location with All The King’s Men.

Albert Einstein - looks like the perfect part for Sean Penn ...


Oscar-winning actor Sean Penn may wind up portraying legendary physicist Albert Einstein for a joint U.S.-Italian TV film production.

Penn, 46, is reportedly interested in working with writer/director Liliana Cavani, the Italian news agency ANSA reported Tuesday. The project is a joint effort between the U.S. premium cable TV network HBO and Italy`s RAI state broadcaster, ANSA said.

An RAI spokesman said Penn appears enthusiastic about the project. 'He`s read the screenplay and he likes it,' RAI`s Agostino Sacca told ANSA.

Penn`s latest, 'All the Kings Men,' opens Friday in U.S. theaters.

Meeting the fans - Sean Penn in New Orleans


The crew of 'All The King's Men' had their second appearance with the film at a Premiere in New Orleans, where they wanted to thank the people, who helped making it. Hundreds of fans waited for Sean Penn, Jude Law, Kate Winslet and Patricia Clarkson.

Louisianas Governor Kathleen Blanco specially said thank you to Sean Penn for his quick help during Hurricane Katrina - and Sean Penn received standing ovations after she finished her speech.

Sean Penn plugs Toronto festival film, rails against Bush administration

Director-writer Steve Zaillian:
"I read it as a great story, a classic story, and really the '49 movie was the only liability that I felt because I knew that at some point, I'd be asked this question down the road," Zaillian says. "I just tried to ignore it, and just go with how I felt when I read the book which was, it was a humbling piece of writing, some of the best writing that we have in America. I just went with my instincts."

Penn said that when he visited Iran he was told to see Ganji but could not because he was in jail. "I was told he was the free voice of Iran," Penn said.

William Hurt received an Oscar nomination this year for his supporting role as a gangster in "A History of Violence". He won a best actor Academy Award for "Kiss of the Spider Woman."

Marcia Gay Harden was nominated for an Oscar for her supporting turn in "Mystic River," the movie for which Penn received his best actor Oscar. She won an Academy Award for best supporting actress for "Pollock."

According to a report by Christopher Isham at ABC News former White House counter-terrorism official Richard Clarke, now an ABC News consultant, will be portrayed by Sean Penn in the Sony film of Clarke's "Against All Enemies." The book chronicles what happened inside the White House leading up to and through the 9/ll attacks. The film will be directed by  Paul Haggis, director of the Oscar-winning movie "L.A. Crash" this year.

The Los Angeles coroners office released a statement late Monday, confirming the reasons behind the shock death of Chris Penn in his Santa Monica, California, apartment on January 24. The tests labeled the primary causes of death as nonspecific cardiomyopathy (an oversized heart) with the 'effects of multiple medication intake' Chief coroner investigator Craig Harvey says: 'There is absolutely no indication that this is anything but an accident. We know he had several prescriptions, including promethazine with codeine, which featured predominantly in his death. We don't know how much he ingested or when. There are a lot of what ifs to be factored in'.
