GAUDI, ANTONI Antoni Plàcid Gaudí i Cornet (1852 - 1926) was a Spanish architect Born at Reus near Tarragona in Catalonia he studied architecture in Barcelona. One of his early works was the fountain complex in the Parc de la Ciutadella in Barcelona, but he also worked out plans for workers homes and apartment complexes (La Pedrera). In 1883 Gaudi took over the direction of the Sagrada Familia, a church in Barcelona, which he never managed to finish in his lifetime. In 1901 Gaudi received the Price of the City of Barcelona for his works. Antoni Gaudi died on the 10th June 1926, three days after a car caught him while crossing the street.
