HITLER, ADOLF
(1889-1945); was Führer (leader) of the third German Reich.Hitler joined the National Socialist Party of in 1919. In 1933, he became chancellor of Germany and set up a dictatorship. He later declared that a new world war would lead to his goal - the end of the Jewish race. In 1945, when the war was lost for Germany, he committed suicide.

HORTHY, MIKLOS
Horthy, Miklos (1868-1957) was regent of Hungary from 1920 to 1944. After 1938, he authorized three increasingly harsh anti-Jewish laws. Nevertheless, in 1942 and 1943, while facing Hitler, he rejected German pressure to exclude Jews from economic activity or deport them. After 1944 , the Nazi's took over Hungary and exiled Horthy

MUSSOLINI, BENITO
Prime minister of Italy from 1922 and head of the Italian Socialist
Republic from 1943 to 1945. His attitude to the Jews was
opportunistic. In 1938, he adopted the racial laws to oust Jews
form Italy. After 1943, the" Final Solution" was applied in
Nazi-occupied Italy Mussolini was later shot by partisans.

TISO, JOZEF
Tiso, Jozef: Slovak priest and politician who ruled Slovakia from 1939-1945, as a Nazi satellite. Even when informed that deported Slovakian Jews were being exterminated, he did not intervene. He did grant exemptions from deportation to 1,100 wealthy Jews who agreed to baptism. In 1945 he fled, but was captured, tried and executed
