| P.M.R.C.
P.M.R.C. stands for "Parents Music Resource Center", which has been established in the USA. In 1985, → Tipper Gore co-founded the PMRC, along with Susan Baker (the wife of Treasury Secretary James Baker III.; called by Frank Zappa "a group of bored Washington housewives"), to help to give parents a greater ability to protect their children from inappropriate material in today's popular culture. The PMRC won its fight for consumer labels on music with violent or explicit lyrics - labels that are still in use today. The original concept was to label records 'O' for occult, 'X' for explicit, 'V' for violent, and 'D/A' for drugs and alcohol.
