Buchenwald is a small village near Weimar (Germany) where the Nazis established a concentration camp ('Konzentrationslager Buchenwald") in 1937. The population increased from 300 to 80.000 prisoners at the end of World War II.
The number of victims who died there (work, torture, beatings, starvation, lack of hygiene, medical experiments) is estimated at about 56.000 plus 13.000 inmates who were transferred to other camps and died there.On April 11, 1945 Buchenwald was liberated by the US Army.
