	November 2003 Winner of the Hard Rock Cafe Battle of the Bands In 2003, a member of the audience at a sub ether radio show asked if the band would perform at the annual Hard Rock Cafe Battle Of The Bands. Why not? Over a series of three heats, sub ether radio electrified the audience with their dynamic live show and unique, original sound. In each heat, the public voted sub ether radio the outright winners until the final. The climax of the competition was judged by music industry representatives (Virgin Records and Bayern 3). A triumphant sub ether radio walked away with the first prize, beating off some serious opposition, including full-time professional bands. The judges decision: "All of the participating bands had high scores in different categories (Voice, Technique, Songwriting, Arrangement, Stageshow). We choose sub ether radio as the winner because they managed to get top marks in all categories."

	Sub Ether Radio - Munich's indie pop jewel By Alex Muir Heard the one about the Scotsman, the German, the Irishman and the American? It's no joke. Sub Ether Radio, the leading lights in Munich's indie music scene, have got everybody talking. And the word is set to spread farther than their homelands. Bassist Billy Christie, guitarist Tony O'Connor, drummer Tim Kalbitzer and singer/Guitarist Brandon Bichler got together in Munich in May 2002 and quickly became a fixture on the city's live scene. "When we got together, everything just fell into place," recalls Tony in his distinctive Irish accent. Tony and Billy were already in a band, which disintegrated when its Irish singer left Munich for home. "Brandon was a fan," Tony adds. "We got him up to sing one night for a laugh." Within weeks, he was their new front man. As for Tim, Tony continues: "Some drummers, even though they can play, just don't fit into a band. Tim came in and fitted straight away." Their star has been rising ever since, with a loyal, ever-growing live following, festival appearances in Munich, Madrid and St. Petersburg, radio play on Bayern 3 and DeutschlandRadio and a raft of critical acclaim for their original, intoxicating sound. Factor in a Virgin/Bayern 3 'Battle of the Bands' victory at the Hard Rock Café and a top ten entry in Antenne Bayern's Soundgarage for Pray and it's clear that the music business is sitting up and taking notice of a unique, accessible style born of their international roots. "Sub Ether Radio is about song writing that exposes our hopes and fears and about music that blends style, culture and ideas," says Brandon, originally from Austin, Texas. "The musical style is eclectic, but firmly grounded and accessible to a mainstream audience." Listening to Fuchsia's Jewel, their debut CD released last November, it is clear Brandon knows his band's music well. From the chilled-out chords of Pray, to the frenetic urgency of Plant Antler and the beauty of Ecstacy, it's a thoughtful, confessional record, full of emotion, which blends a raft of styles into a mainstream sound with mass appeal. The album's accessibility has made it a sought after gem on Amazon. "It's not a concept album," says Billy. "But it flows and can be listened to as a single experience, while still allowing individual songs to be enjoyed on their own merits." Meeting the guys, it's clear there are no prima donnas in this band. Writing credits on Fuchsia's Jewel are scrupulously shared although the boys acknowledge main lyricist Brandon's particular contribution. "He's very talented with a real feeling for music, which makes him extraordinary," Tim says, doling lavish praise with a disarming matter-of-factness. Brandon is quick to return the compliments. "Playing with these guys never ceases to surprise me," he says. "Every time we think we have a block or a lull, we end up with something truly unexpected but somehow brilliant." It's clear the whole band is infected with their singer's passion for great music and a desire to share it with others. Drummer Tim sums up the mood: "We love what we do, but we love it even more when other people love it." That most who hear what they do love it is the driving force behind Sub Ether Radio's gathering momentum. At times, though, they still seem a little bemused by all the fuss. "When you�re standing on stage and see the crowd singing your songs, it's a weird feeling," Billy confesses. Word is spreading fast. The guys may soon grow accustomed to adulation. 	Treffen sich ein Amerikaner, ein Ire, ein Schotte und ein Deutscher. Mit diesem Satz könnte ein Witz beginnen - im Falle von Sub Ether Radio beschreibt er den Ausgangspunkt zur Gründung einer hoffnungsvollen Band. Die vier Musiker haben im Oktober 2002 in M�nchen zueinandergefunden und sich seitdem den Ruf eines Geheimtipps erspielt. Der Irish Pub 'An Sibin' lud sie am Samstag nach Darmstadt ein, wo sie sich als solide Live-Band präsentierte, die typischen Pub-Rock mit Folk-Einflüssen servierte. Das Programm variierte zwischen ruhigeren, balladesken Stücken und flotten, eingängigen Rocksongs. Alle Lieder versprühten gute Laune, die sich auf das Publikum übertrug. Schlagzeuger Tim Kalbitzer spielte ein treibendes Set, Sänger Brandon Bichler überzeugte mit abwechslungsreichem Gesang, Gitarrist Tony O'Connor wusste auch verzwicktere Passagen sauber zu meistern und Bassist Billy Christie stand ihm in Können und Spielfreude in nichts nach. Ein bisschen Funk, ein wenig Ska, aber vor allem klarer Gitarrenrock mit treibendem Schlagwerk eröffnet dem Publikum Freude an eingängiger und gut gespielter Livemusik. Die ruhigen und einfühlsamen Balladen geben dann wieder Gelegenheit zum relaxen. Aber auch für die "Immer-Fitten" werden sich bei dieser Band nochmals zahlreichen Gelegenheiten zum Abhotten ergeben, spätestens wenn "S.E.R." präsentiert, was sie unter 'paced Funk' nun genau verstehen. In ihrer Heimat sind sie schon mehr als ein Geheimtipp - durch die Auftritte in Münchner Pubs ist der Ruf ins An Sibin nach Darmstadt gedrungen. Und da hier speziell Newcomern verstärkt eine Chance bekommen sollen, darf man diesen Termin mit den Subraummusikanten dick in den Kalender schreiben. Printed Issue (January 2004)

	Im Jahre 2003 waren Sub Ether Radio der "Best Newcomer" der "Munich Hard Rock Cafe Battle Of The Bands". Vielleicht halten dies einige für einen etwas fragwürdigen Titel, dennoch war es so etwas wie die Initialzündung zu Ihrem Debütalbum, das soeben veröffentlicht wurde. Ausgefeilte Arrangements und einprägsame Kompositionen sind da zu hören, überwiegend im emotionalen, gitarrenorientierten Indie-Sound angesiedelt. Wobei, so Indie ist das alles nicht, hier dürfen sich auch Leute heranwagen, die in der Regel lieber Bayern 3 anstelle des Zündfunk hören. Printed Issue (Number 5, 2005)

Put an American, an Irishman, a Scotsman and a German together and what do you get? In this case, an electrifying Indie Rock performance. The eclectic musical and national backgrounds blending seamlessly to create a sound that is uniquely sub ether radio. Voted 'Best Newcomers' by the public and music industry representatives in the Munich Hard Rock Cafe Battle Of The Bands 2003, regular performers at festivals and other concert venues, only one thing was missing. It became clear that the crowd wanted something to take home in addition to the memory of a great show. Here it is: sub ether radio's first album 'Fuchsia's Jewel'.
