New Freeware: Astrolabium, DSLR Timer and Fokuspokus for your telecope
Comet Lulin in March 2009
The observation of the sky with the naked eye or with a small telescope is an unique experience. With a camera, however, you can discover new worlds. Whether it be the sky photographed directly or through a telescope: Because a camera can collect the light you see a thousand times more. Comet Lulin was hardly visible with blank eyes. With binoculars you could see a nebula. With my Canon EOS 20d I took 20 images of 30 seconds each and overlayed them. Now coma and tail of the comet can clearly be seen.
Camera and mount was done by Fokuspokus.

A further improvement can be achieved by software:

  • DSLR Timer is a software interval timer and helps you to capture series of images with your DSLR camera.
  • Fokuspokus is a program to control the telescope. It works so easy with it's point-and-click navigation and automates many things that usually must be done manually. It combines your mount, focuser and camera to an astrocamera.
  • AstroLabium is a tool to analyze your astrophotos.
