Comet Lulin in March 2009 |
The observation of the sky with the naked eye or with a small telescope is an unique
experience. With a camera, however, you can discover new worlds. Whether it be the
sky photographed directly or through a telescope: Because a camera can collect the
light you see a thousand times more. Comet Lulin was hardly visible with blank eyes.
With binoculars you could see a nebula. With my Canon EOS 20d I took 20 images of
30 seconds each and overlayed them. Now coma and tail of the comet can clearly be
seen.
Camera and mount was done by Fokuspokus.

Telecope control with Fokuspokus |
A further improvement can be achieved by software:
- DSLR Timer is a software interval timer
and helps you to capture series of images with your DSLR camera.
- Fokuspokus is a program to control the
telescope. It works so easy with it's point-and-click navigation and automates many
things that usually must be done manually. It combines your mount, focuser and camera
to an astrocamera.
- AstroLabium is a tool to analyze your
astrophotos.
