Encoding at 23.976 using 3:2 Pulldown

There have been lots of tries to burn a 23.976 progressive source to a DVD-R or a CD-R in SVCD mode.
Many people just convert the framerate to 29,976 FPS so the authoring application accepts the converted 23.976 to 29.976 stream.

That's wrong cause there's an opportunity to burn a disk by still encoding the stream at 23.976 FPS - in its original condition.

What kind of movies do have real 23.976 FPS?
Many, many DVIXs and almost 90% of the consumer Hollywood-Movie DVD's, even if for example DVD2AVI tells the user that its a 29.976 NTSC FILM!
And thats the Point: NTSC FILM is 23.976! So if DVD2AVI tells you "29.976 NTSC FILM" that means its a 23.976 and if it tells you "29.976 NTSC" you got a "real" 29.976 Stream.

We have a real advantage when still encoding at 23.976 FPS:

Example:
You got a movie with 23,976 FPS @ 480x480
1 Frame= 230400 px
*23,976 FPS = 5522688 pixels per second
*60 seconds = 331361280 pixels per minute
*100 minutes (movie lenght) = 33136128000 pixels to handle by encoding a 100 min Video stream at 23.976 FPS

And if you encode a 23.976 FPS movie converted to 29,976 FPS @ 480x480
the 100 min. Video stream will contain
41430528000 pixels when encoding at 29,976 FPS!!!

So this is why you would receive less CQ and less Quality!
(In this case when encoding a full Screen Movie, not a Widescreen! but in Widescreen mode we enjoy in relation the same advantage when encoding at 23,976 FPS!)

But how do we make the authoring application and DVD player accept our 23.976 FPS encoded stream?
During encoding we add a pulldown information, so the stream will be "recognised" by the authoring app. as a 29.976 FPS but it's still real!! 23.976 FPS stream ;-)
You have to encode using mpeg2 cause only this stream type allows the integration of a 3:2 pulldown information.

In case of using TmpgEnc to encode our stream we have to set the following options:

MPEG2 Mode is required
to do the 3:2 pulldown

Still encoding at 23.976!!
(internally 29.97 fps)

Here you have to set to
3:2 Pulldown while playback
