Tilman Brück

 

Biography

Tilman Brück is Head of the Department of International Economics at the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin) and Professor of Development Economics at Humboldt-University of Berlin. He studied economics at the Universities of Glasgow and Oxford and obtained his doctorate in economics from the University of Oxford. His research interests include the economics of household behaviour and well-being in conflict and post-conflict economies and the economics of terrorism and insecurity. He has worked on many developing and middle income countries including Kyrgyzstan, Mozambique, Nicaragua, Syria, Tanzania, Uganda and Ukraine.

 

Professor Brück is a co-founder and co-director of the „Households in Conflict Network”, the coordinator of the “Network for the Economics of Terrorism (NEAT)” and the coordinator or deputy coordinator of several European research projects in the 6th and 7th framework programmes. He has also worked as a consultant for BMZ, DFID, the European Commission, GTZ, ILO, KfW, OECD, UNDP, USAID, and the World Bank and has extensive experience in commenting on current economic policy issues in the media. Professor Brück is a visiting researcher at the Institute of Social Sciences (ICS) in Lisbon, Portugal, a research affiliate of the Poverty Research Unit at Sussex (PRUS), a research associate at the Brooks World Poverty Institute (BWPI) at the University of Manchester, a research fellow at the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA), and an elected fellow of the German Young Academy of Sciences.

Professor Brück teaches a course in development economics at the Masters level each summer semester and supervises research projects and doctoral students in development economics at the Department of Agricultural Economics at Humboldt-University of Berlin.
