ARTIST's Relatives
As mentioned before ARTIST has some relatives in the www. This is not considered a complete list. I may refer only to some of them:-
Joe le pendule is a
sophisticated radio-controlled 2-wheel balancing robot with high precision. It’s sensor data signal processing and drive control
is based on a digital signal processor DSP. It is worth mentioning that they
managed to compensate for gyro drift only by odometry
(wheel encoders) and software and not by using another tilt sensor. Included
are nice videos and proper documentation (
*.pdf
document). The first publications about Joe go back to the
years 2001 and 2002, indicating the pioneering work that was done here.
nbot is an autonomous balancing robot created by David P. Anderson (featured as NASA's Cool Robot of the Week for 19 May 2003). From revision 3 of nbot onwards the commercial inclinometer FAS-G (Gyro Enhanced Inclinometer) from MicroStrain is used. The nbot web site has many videos demonstrating it’s development and behaviour on various surfaces. Furthermore there is an extensive list of useful links to other two-wheelers and related technical information.
Bender is a balancing robot project by Ted Larson started in 2003. There are different versions of his robot which have been shown in TV shows and at robot contests and won several prices. There are lots of photos, videos and links on his web site.
NXTway-G by Ryo Watanabe in 2007 is based on Lego Mindstorms NXT with an additional rate gyro sensor CRS03-02 by Silicon Sensing (the same type I used here). There was a prior version called NXTway by Philippe Hurbain in 2007 based on the mindstorms light sensor controlling the distance to the floor.
