During the night between April 4th and 5th. Tom, DL9OBD and Wilfried, DJ1WF increased the long distance record in laser ATV up to 83,3km. Ludwig, DO2LN was also present and helped us to transport and to set up the equipment. During the transmissions, there were some parts absolutely noise free even if the distance was very long. The transmitter location was at a place named "Wolfswarte" in a region called "Harz".

You can see the hills in the background haze. For such long distances, a good sight is absolutely recommended. For that reason, the signal quality was fading a little bit during the transmission. At the beginning of the transmission some parts of Hannover 83 km away could be seen very clearly through a telescope. A little bit later some haze came up and increased the atmospherical attenuation. The following picture shows Hannover in 83km photographed from the transmitter location.
